Keeping UP with Current Events

The art of Charles W. White, American Muralist, helped to change America through imagery

One of the challenges of writing in today's world is to keep up with current trends and events which are rapidly changing and charged with political and social unrest. Writers, actors, producers, and musicians have to be conscientious about what they post and what they say in public. Jobs and opportunities depend upon discretion and good taste. I am very much in support of movements which uplift the human spirit and support artistic projects which reflect the best in human nature.

Ghandi's contribution to political and social reform required great personal discipline and sacrifice

For this reason I wrote The Fairy Lore of Ghost Horse Hollow in which all the races of man work in harmony. The characters respect one another regardless of age, sexual orientation, race, and social background. All the homesteaders practice different religions as well, even Fairy Lore, which is a form of spiritual and ritual practice designed to bring fairness and balance into the world and to maintain sustainable activities. The primary divisiveness in the story is between the Moonlight and the Starlight camps of fairy magic. These two kingdoms represent death and decay versus growth and regeneration.

The Fairy Lore of Ghost Horse Hollow helps to support the sustainment of Nature

Nature is full of contrasts. The issues which divide human beings often are rooted in survival. One group or tribe, gang or club, tries to subdue another in order to obtain territory and supplies. Our greatest goal should be to uphold high standards of living for every member of society with equal justice and equal opportunities for all. To reach this level of utopian interaction, we must be willing to share and to not only improve our own well being, but also add to the quality of life of those around us. We need to be asking how can we make life better for society in general, so that no one is excluded from moving forward and no one is discriminated against.

Social reforms, such as child labor laws, are often controversial and resisted by those in power

Artists ring the bells of freedom, justice, love, and community. We are often introverts who are so impassioned about the world around us, that we come out of our shells and offer our reflections, concerns, and goals for reform. Murals, concerts, dedications, free events, street performances, albums, songs, books, poems, essays, and short stories have rocked history and set the tone for freedom marches, congressional bills, political protests, and controversial discussions. Art reflects society. My goal as a creative writer is to make sure the well being of the Earth is not forgotten by each generation and that the diversity of humankind is viewed as a strength and not a weakness.

Artists like Charles W. White add their talented voices to the momentum of social change

To that end, I invite you to read TURN of the BLADE, BOOK 1 of The FAIRY LORE of GHOST HORSE HOLLOW, and begin the magical journey for the Earth and all Earth's Children. I also invite you to join our Facebook Group Page: ART with ANNE to learn more about Charles W. White and his powerful art work in the Social Realism/Muralism movement in American history. He is our topic of discussion for the week of June 8, 2020. The Facebook Page is FREE, of course, and will add to your study of Art History, Visual Art Techniques for illustrators, and Creative Writing.

Charles W. White's artwork was powerful and positive and called for a new vision for America

Artists are often ahead of their times, and creative writers for both fiction and non-fiction have many private moments of doubt. We must not lose sight of our objectives and continue to give what we can to the world in which we live. Hope springs eternal, as the saying goes. So does the artist's muse, especially when inspired by current events.

The pathways toward change may be lonely and challenging, but eventually the ice thaws and the flow begins
